To all friends and practitioners who knew Sensei Scaglione:

I am very sad to make this announcement that our instructor Scaglione has passed away on November 18th. We have not found the exact cause of his death (pending on the autopsy), apparently he died while he was asleep according to his wife. Sensei Scaglione trained with us on 17th Monday. He even assisted me in the semi-annual dan examination. He was an extremely fit athlete and also very dedicated. We still cannot believe he is gone. He was not only an excellent karateka and instructor but also he was our close friend. We miss his teaching, guidance, leadership and mostly his smiles. Whenever we are in the dojo or training karate, we will remember Sensei Scaglione and feel his presence among us.

The memorial service is planned by his family on November 23, Sunday at 4pm. It will be at Sunnyvale Seventh Day Adventist Church; 653 West Fremont Avenue, Sunnyvale. All friends of Scaglione sensei are invited to the service.

We pray he rests in peace.

The UASK Karate Dojo, Bethlehem PA, Asai Sensei Memorial Training — August 15, 2008

The Chief Instructor of the UASK Karate Dojo, Sensei Cruz reported they had a successful event in the evening of August 15th. The class covered Basics (Kihon) and Kumite emphasizing spinning maneuvers and techniques. They concluded the training by introducing Jo No Kata, Kibaken and Junro. After the final bow, one of the junior black belt (Gina Ascencio) read the biography of Master Asai. In addition, other students joined in sharing their experiences and impressions of training under Master Asai. They all agreed that the key phrase that described him better was as ‘an inspirational person,’ since he kept training until his last days regardless of his medical condition without ever complaining.

A JKS Rank Recognition Test was conducted and the results are as follow:
    Kenneth L. Navarro8th Kyu
    Curtis MacDonald7th Kyu
    Roberto Marrero, Jr.5th Kyu
