JKS Americas Tournament Rules After considering the following facts, JKS Americas has adopted the NKF tournament rules for all tournaments that are sanctioned by our organization. The reasons are as follows:

JKS Americas Kyu Certificates Thanks to the great work of Sensei Goberdhan we have recently created JKS kyu certificates (choices of portrait and landscape formats). These certificates look official and very nice. And the great news is that they are available to all JKS affiliated dojos at no charge. This is going to be the first one of the benefits you get from JKS Americas. However, remember that we are not forcing this kyu certificates to the members. Each individual dojo can decide if they want to use their own certificate or if they wish to use the certificates we offer. If you are interested and your membership is active:
Click here to download the landscape version. When you examine the pdf document, you will notice that the certificate has 2008 printed on it, therefore, you can use this certificate for all the kyu tests you do this year. We will post 2009 version in January next year. |

Kyu Ranking and Associated Belt Colors There was a motion to standardize the belt colors in kyu ranks. After some investigation and research, we found that there are so many different systems not only in the US and Latin America but also in Europe. Some of the dojos start the ranking from 9 kyu or even 10 kyu while the others start from 8 kyu. For your information, JKS Japan starts with 8 kyu but has only three colors (green, blue, purple) besides brown for 1—3 kyu. After evaluating the current situation, with the spirit of JKS Americas, we do not wish to impose any un-necessary rules and policies upon the affiliated dojos. As long as you agree on 1—3 kyu are brown, then it will be up to each individula dojo to decide on the colors to the ranks below 3 kyu. Each dojo can also decide on if it will provide the additional ranks of 9 kyu and 10 kyu before the first rank of 8 kyu. Having said that I want to emphasize that it is at most important to keep the quality of JKS techniques and karate skills by not compromising on the requirements in our exam syllabus. We ask each examiner to adhere to the official JKS syllabus when a kyu test is conducted. If you should have any questions, please contact Sensei Yokota. |

Apology letter from JKS headquarters for slow administration work
From – JKS Headquarters. Tokyo, Japan Dear Sir/Madam – We would like to apologize for any delay in sending out both DAN Certificates and Dojo Membership Certificates, due to a delay on behalf of the printing company. At this time, while we will be able to send all dan Certificates on time, we are still experiencing a delay in the Dojo Membership Certificates. Therefore, we will be delayed in sending out the annual Dojo Membership Certificates in 2007. Thank you for your cooperation and your patience. Sincerely, |
